MIM #125

It's Monday, and that means MIM #125.
This week Erin Lincoln shows us the technique of "Defined Watercolors".
Picking a stampset was easy. Simple Sunflowers had the full shape that would work with
watercolors as well as stamped ink definition.
Popped up a few of the elements, and added Dawn's 'Boutique Borders, Thanks'.
Also used a few copic  pens on the die cut sunflower.
Loved this technique, watercolors have always been a favorite.
Photo detail shows stems added Sew Simple Borders.
First with watercolors then inked with Simply Chartreuse.
My Minds Eye Chocolate gingham
A la mode copper embossing powder, Stampendous Peridot embossing powder.
Stash twine and jewels.
All else, Papertrey Ink

MIM #124

Melissa dresses up envelopes on this week's MIM.
Her style puts a smile inside me. Not to mention, an inspiration to let my frilly vintage self
out! Love everything she does!
But... oldest granddaughter graduated this year from high school, and we owe her a biggie gift.
Taylor Ashton doesn't have a frilly scalloped bone in her. Totally simple, contemporary, and purple lover since forever!
Here's her card:
Pinterest inspired graduate cap, lots of silver, and of course, PURPLE!
On the left is the envelope/card holder, a Papertrey stamp container, remade.
Wrapped the box in Just the Ticket and Purple Plum and Plum Pudding card stock.
Large Limitless Layers Ovals stamp embossed with Red, White and Blue.
Sentiment: Bigger Blooms.
Stars die cut and stamp embossed with Military Stars.
Backside with Plum Pudding Cardstock showing through and tickets taped with silver star Washi.
The gift (money) is inside the card. This is one fussy lady. Know she'll appreciate cash more than any other gift while away at college.
My fussy vintage lacy finger are itching to decorate another envelope! So back to the cave to try another 'Dressed Up' Envelope.
Always fun with Melissa!

MIM #123 Making Your Own Paint

Making Your Own Paint is the theme of this week's MIM at PapertreyInk.
Ashley shows us how to use gesso and reinkers to create a
bright paint for projects.
Needed little bags to house goodies for 3 granddaughters that will spend time with us during the summer. They are cousins that come from northern and southern CA, 9, 8, and 3, who need a
survival kit for the hot summer days with gma and gpa.
(Or is it me that need the kits?)
Ashley's tutorial was a perfect excuse to create something a bit more special.

Noelle Rose Hopper is the three year old, and although the youngest, she's no shrinking violet!
I used each girl's initials to decorate the bags.
Also stamped a bit of embroidered blooms and added a resin jewel.
These are the 3 bags filled.
By the way, I'm sure you all know about Target's 1 spot. A lifesaver for grandmas!

Made them each a set of clippies, a great excuse for grandma to style their hair!
The dots are gesso paint done with the eraser of a pencil.
Each gets: Disney bandaids, (believe me they'll go through the box!) clippies, sparkly pencils, tablet, mermaid crayons, sunglasses, toothbrush set, cupcake sharpener, and a lego friends eraser set (couldn't resist it at .28 cents!).

It's going to be a busy week!
Letter stencils: Martha Steward at Michaels. It came with the double flourish stencil,
Bag (s/5) also from Michaels.
Reinkers, felt, stamps, dies and ink: PapertreyInk

MFW Mixy Matchy Style 2

Moxy Fab World's Mixy Matchy Style Challenge
2nd post
Patterns are one of the reasons I became interested in making cards.
It was easy to transition from quiltmaking to paper crafts.
I love print. I love mixing prints.
For sure, it's an art to pick and match the right colors, prints, size of patterns. And then, how much of each do you use on a project. Wish I could wave a wand to assure assembly of said project,
but I can say practice and failure (after failure) helps.
But, as they say, "Never give up! Never surrender!" (think that's a line from a movie)
So on to 2nd post
Definitely looks like a quilt hanging in the great room.
Yes I have a 'great room'. It's the room we put the Christmas tree in, the room that actually stays clean because no one lives in it. You know, the parlor, the living room. The room builders stopped building.
OK, it's the room that DOESN'T open into the kitchen!
I love that room.
It has the pix of all the grandkids. It is transformed for every holiday.
It's warm and bright and is where I go to read, have coffee, and sit and dream.
Most of the mixy matchy inspiration came from Graphic 45's French Country 6x6 paper pack.
The 'quilt' is Papertrey's hexagon cover plate cut many times and assembled, like a quilt.
The slice of cake, the gold embossed fork and knife are from Papertrey's Table Service.
Rolling Pin and spoon from Ranger's 'Kitchen' stamp set.
Popping up some of the elements helped break up some of the business. Vintage lace, twine and Papertrey buttons finish.
If you'd like to give the Mixy Matchy challenge a try, find it here:
Think I'll go sit in the 'Great Room' for awhile...

MFW TT Scene in Tangerine

This week's Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World grabbed me immediately!
Time has been an issue, as my house was room and board to family since the end of school.
Not that grandma is complaining...
Here's Moxie's trigger
This Week's Tuesday Trigger
I have to admit, I wanted to play some more with PTI's new release, "Garden Variety',
so inspiration was colors, trim, embroidery thread.
Almost all PapertreyInk stamps, dies, Felt, Zing powder, papers and twine.
The edging detail is one of Martha Steward's edge punch.
Background paper is the lettuce head stamp, first in Simply Chartreuse, then in snow.
Tuesday Trigger lasts until Sunday.
Stay cool! And eat your vegetables!

MIM #122

Getting in late with MIM, this week featuring Heather Nichols and
giving polka dot texture with Copic markers to our cards.
Inspiration comes from my garden, and the bumper crop of tomatoes this year!
It's hot and dry in the valley, perfect weather for growing fruits and vegetables!
I was thrilled when PTI added 'Vegetable Garden Stamps and dies!
Seed Packet diecut from Ocean Tides Pattern Pack,
tomato colored with lots of copic reds and that O which picks up the color.
Did some fussy cutting with the tomato leaves on the top of the diecut tomato, and inked them in Limeaid Ice, Simply Chartreuse, the darker leaves in Simply Chartreuse and Ripe Avocado.
All mounted on a sprayed screen stencil, that looks like chicken wire,
some corrugated cardstock and layers of patterned paper.
A few mums from Freckled Fawn and a scarlet jewel finish.
Oh yes, the sentiment from Bigger Blooms.
Don't think I need the darker tomato underneath, but I added it, and a jewel as an anchor.
Layers and patterns qualifies for Moxie Fab World's Mixy-Matchy Style Challenge.
Hope your weekend is cooler than mine. We're promised 109 through the coming week!
Meanwhile, enjoy a few more shameless photos of my veggie garden!

Don't you just love Armenian cucumbers?
Waiting for this guy to get a bit bigger, and then, fried in Panko!
These get roasted.
Thoroughly spoiled by homegrown!
Wishing you a beautiful (not as hot as mine) weekend!

PTI's Gold Blog Hop

Post 2 for the Blog Hop,
"Touch of Gold"
Can you pick out the Papertrey products?
Clockface stamp and die set embossed with gold+aqua powders.
Hands of time embossed as well to give it that aged look.
Dawn's Boutique Borders: Birthday embossed on vellum
A La Blanche pocketwatch stamp embossed on vellum and fussy cut
The face of the pocketwatch is inked with aqua mist and Hawaiian shores ink, our last
MIM challenge.

The front of the pocket watch is opened with some foam pop ups (kinda hard to see)
Enjoy the Hop!

PTI June Blog Hop

It's a great day for a blog hop!
PTI is hosting one on Nichole's blog that use gold in your project
June-Blog-Hop
Don't you just love all that bling?
On to my project:
All PapertreyInk, except the gold glitter from Martha Steward and some Lindy's aqua spray.
Where did I find those perfectly round cylinders? They're the holes out of PTI's 'Clock Face Die'!
Now hop along to see what all the clever gals have posted here:

MIM #121

Colored Vellum Flowers is our challenge at PTI's MIM this week.
Betsy Veldman's tutorial used die cut vellum colored with ink on a Q-tip.
Love this! The results are translucent pieces of loveliness on a card.
Well, it was when she did it!
I still have strawberries in the garden, so I pulled out Strawberry Patch and Strawberry Patch Sentiments stamps and dies.
Summertime and strawberries, a perfect match!
I cut away the center of the Twisted Coverplate, and mounted it on a ripe avocado cardstock, which was stamped with fresh snow.
Vellum sentiment on a double ended banner and a tiny tag.
To color the vellum strawberries, I used Pure Poppy, Scarlet Jewel, and a bit of Limeaid Ice in the centers of the berries.
The leaves are Limeaid Ice and New Leaf.
Tiny foam dots pop up the berries and the tag.
Always enjoy Betsy's tutorials! Might just have to do another!

MFW TT: Vintage Vagabond

Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger this week is:
Vintage Vagabond
This Week's Tuesday Trigger
Inspiration? Came from the striped carpet, patterns, colors, that touch of burnished gold, the cage, the angles of the photo, phew! Is that enough? If not, how about the word, 'vintage'.
Out came a paper pad from My Mind's Eye called Traveler.
My card was built on a rather quilted pattern paper, which was not quite patterned enough, hence the added distressed stripes from a PTI stampset.

See the wooden cages? Reminded me of a Kaisercraft wooden dressform I had.
Added a reddish print paper behind it.
Lots of fun elements, such as the patina strip sent through my Cuttlebug with a folder that looked like the patterns on the plates. Cork tag with a sentiment from PTI's Embellishments stampset.
The 'You' and 'Inspire Me' are stamped in gold and then black ink.
Found objects in my stash, including this old button (it is, afterall, a"vintage" vagabond" challenge)
Angled the finished piece on black cardstock, and angled it a bit again on Kraft Cardstock from PTI.
This one was not in my comfort range, and took me awhile to interpret. But Cath doesn't miss with these Trigger photos. They're apparently meant to 'challenge!'
Vintage Vagabond runs through the 23rd if you'd like to join the fun!
Discover your inner 'Vagabond', and play along!

MIM #120

Monday is time to create at PapertreyInk!
Heather Nichols shows us how to overlap colors in her tutorial on 'Overlapping Ombre'.
Next week is Father's Day, so adding to the stash for the
father's in our family.
My father and husband were builders, and one of our son's inherited the gene.
He creates the most amazing things from wood!
Our favorite saying is, "measure twice, cut once." Had to throw that one in!
Embossed the saw and screwdriver in gold and silver. The screw joining the circle of saws is a brad.
There's a dot at the base of the saw that makes for perfect alignment as you're stamping the image.
All Papertrey inks and papers.
Inks: Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Canyon Clay and Terracotta Tile.
Papers: Orange Zest cardstock, Stampers Select White, Dark Chocolate and Lemon Tart
Around the sentiment I stamped a tiny bolt cut from the strip of border bolts included with the set.
It's OK to do that (according to one of the designers), besides, there's plenty left on the strip!
