Paper Sweeties Inspiration Challenge - June 2016

It's time for a new challenge at Paper Sweeties,
and Debbie has given us this photo:

Did a literal cupcake card, with the colors, and a card for dad!

Used Sending Sweet Thoughts and Hello Friend banner,
with the letters 'dad' spelled out in game pieces.
All  coloring done with my Zig Cleancolor watercolor pens.

Play along all month for a gift certificate and a chance to be our next
guest designer!

Thanks for looking, and be sure to check out the rest of the
design team.
A big welcome to Beth Luetschwager!

12 Kits of Occasions: 'Here Comes the Sun'

Hello, 12 Kits fans!
Our theme this month is 'Here Comes the Sun'.
Our Kit was supplied by Sharron Gregory, from, On Papillon Wings.
Memorial Day signals the start of summer in the states,
and Sharron blessed us with warm and wonderful images and accessories!
Here's a peek at our supplies

So many wonderful images, die cuts, sequins and designer papers!

I made 7 cards, but honestly, could have made more! Just ran out of time!

This paper reminded me of a tiki hut, so I went with the Hawaiian theme,
complete with the hula girl!
The cute waves are PTI's Frosted Borders, cut in sea colors.

Seriously craving a lime aid drink with a twist right now.
(It's 5:00 somewhere, right?)

The wonderful iridescent sequins from Spellbinders Celebrations were wonderful to work with, and perfect for a shaker!

If you've ever been to Hawaii, geckos are everywhere. Including hotel rooms! Perfectly harmless, and quick as all get out,
I think I set the hi-jump record the first time I met one!

Used a couple of paper extras for my Pina Colada card!

Sharron also included some gardening images and matching sentiments.
What's summer without a garden to enjoy?

2 separate sentiments, but I thought they went so well together!

Thanks for visiting, and don't forget to see what the other designers did
with all their wonderful goodies!

Big Hugs and kisses to Sharron for a summery, joy filled kit!

Happy

Hope you're enjoying your Memorial Day.
I had some time to play along with Papertrey's Make It Monday,
this week featuring Dawn McVey and creating Gradient Watercolor Die Cuts.

Dawn had several tips for creating the gradient color change, and she made
2 cards, so I did too.

First in blues and then in pinks and reds, and using the Bitty Butterflies
Cover Plate, and One Big Happy.
Dawn used her Zig pens, which I also used. Her tips on blending were perfect!
Play along all week here:

I die cut my happy three times and silver embossed the flower on vellum.

Let Your Light Shine

MIM this week with Laurie Wilison, showing us how she
masks her backgrounds. Her video, is full of
Laurie masking tricks, such as tape to use and how to best
apply your die cut sentiment.

See it here:

I love the effects you can get doing the masking, using color,
arranging the mask to suit your stamps.

I used the Guiding Lights stamp set and masked the front, both for border
and to showcase the light.
What the Doodle: Waves die and stamps.
Laurie added water droplets, didn't think I needed them, so left them out.
Americana and Stormy Sea Inks.
Sponging done with Spring Rain, Aqua Mist, Harvest Gold.
Love the sentiments in this set, especially this one!

May 2016 Blog Hop Challenge

Time for PTI's May Blog Hop, and Nichole has given us this inspiration

Nichole gave us free reign to use any of the colors of the photo,
any stamps we choose, and experiment with the fonts for our
sentiment. 'Out of our comfort zone', were her last words!

One layer cards are hardest for me, definitely struggle
to not add just one more:
pop up somewhere, frame it, bling or button!
I played with the Simple Seashells, watercoloring their 3 steps,
masking as I went.
Sand Swatch, and Colorful Words.
Fireworks Bahama Blue & Summer Sky
(and couldn't help adding just a few sequins!)
Hawaiian Shores Cardstock
PTI Inks:
Spring Rain, Blueberry Sky, Lavender Moon, Plum Pudding, Aqua Mist,
Hawaiian Shores, Winter Wisteria, Classic Kraft, Fine Linen
Hero Arts Shadow Ink: Wet Cement

Can't wait to see all the entries!

Ahoy, Little Sailor!

Lexi has the helm at PTI's MIM this week,
with a real challenging challenge.
She turns money into a work of art, or origami, and
attaches it to her card.
Lexi has us incorporating the money in our gift.
OK, sounds simple...
Mainly because she graciously has several 'how to' links up on her blog.
Thank you, Lexi!

One of my grandsons is turning 5, and I couldn't wait to do
a 'special' card for him.
Using a 5 dollar bill, I made a pop up box card, with the bill as a fish.
This was my first pop up box, and I can't wait to do another!
It's kinda like decorating a miniature room. When you get started,
it's had to stop with all the details.

Once you cut the basic box, a plan for a theme seems to propel
what is chosen. I used Ahoy stamps and dies, and Confetti Toss &
Super Succulents patterned paper, all on Enchanted Evening pattern
paper pack. Confetti Toss reminded me of bubbles.
I filled in some of the 'bubbles' with aqua copic.

A view from the top shows the construction and how the bubbles and money
were attached, with strips of clear card stock.

Back side with Shepherd's name and sentiment,
added onto more bubbles.

It folds to fit into a standard A2 sized envelope.

Shell is heat embossed Apricot Zing onto vellum, and fussy cut.

Here's a list of the dies I used:
Ahoy
Bibliophile (small bubble)
Boutiful Banners (small bubble)
Heart 2 Heart #12 (medium bubble)
Modern Numbers (5)
Birthday Style (stars)
Frosted Borders (wave looking bottom border)
I colored vellum with copics before cutting out the circles,
and sprinkled on a few sequins.

You Tube has some great videos that help you create
your own pop up card box.
I found mine here:

8 of the 11 at our house this past Easter,
right before the hunt for eggs!
Getting them to hold still was no easy task!
Shepherd is the boy in the front on the right.
His brother is the baby being held, with his brother's basket!

All of You

It's Monday, and that means a new challenge at PTI.
This week features Lizzie, and Ink Blending Through Die Cut Masks.

I used the lovely branch from Songbirds, and created a mask from vellum.
Inked it twice, first with Mint Julep, then Ocean Tides.
Also created a mask with the bird, and Raspberry Fizz.
Die cut the bird 4 times to get an amethyst bird with white,
yellow and mint julep
flower, center and leaves.
Used the positive vellum and inked the back side with Aqua Mist, and
floated it as a third branch.
Sentiment from Choose Joy stamped with Amethyst Allure.
Matted and curved the corners.
All over Ocean Tides pattern paper.
This was so fast and easy, love thinking about all the possibilities
to create die cut masks.
Thanks, Lizzie!

Happy Mother's Day

I was very much inspired by Curtain Call's inspiration:

Those charming colors!
The patterns & flowers spoke to me too.
Besides, I needed a Mother's Day card!

All PTI: Peonies On Parade & Shaped Sayings: Mother's Day.
Background is smooshed with Blueberry Sky & Spring Rain
Mood Mix Pattered paper collection (PTI)
Flicks from Fireworks: Bahama Blue & Mister Huey's Opaque White
Colored with Zig Clean color pens.

Watercolor Thank you card set

This week's MIM at PapertreyInk, has Melissa Phillips
showing us how to make watercolor card sets.

Melissa used PTI's Bold Blossoms watercolor sheets, which I have,
but I wondered how her technique would work on
other PTI sets, Super Succulents, for instance,
which is printed on linen paper.

Started out with this preprinted sheet with the 3 potted plants,
sponge inked and watercolored Lemon Tart and Harvest Gold.
Stamped and spritzed the front, and added my sentiment.
The dp come with several patterns, easy to add a co-ordinated strip of
pattern to the front.

This one was sponged with Lemon Tart, Harvest Gold & Summer Sunrise.
Stamped the hanging succulents, and spritzed with orange.
Melissa added sequins to her lovely cards, so I also added some to mine.

3rd card in the set with selected inking and watercoloring.
These came together quickly and easily, but I learned the hard way not
to go heavy on the water with the linen paper.

Liked this technique so well, did another, and added a die cut.

Watch Melissa's video here, on Nichole's blog:

Hummingbird

Fusion Card Challenge is this photo:

Just the photo this time.
I just purchased some new stamp sets from The Ton.

Couldn't wait to ink up the hummingbird!
