MIM#115 Beyond Paper with Impression Plates

Heather Nichols takes us to the hardware store with this week's challenge at PapertreyInk.
She used a foil tape and impressed it.
My Sweetie is a retired contactor, so I quizzed him about leftovers he's put away in our garage/blackhole. Sure enough, no trip to Lowe's for me! He had a whole role.
Got out my cuttlebug folders and had a ball.
Did 2 cards for this challenge. 1st one, not so thrilling, seemed like I tried too hard. (Why does that never work?)
The tape is die cut with The Twist Impression plate. Needed another Mother's Day card, so went with The Sweet Life stamps and dies.
Ocean Tides cardstock, and pretty paper from The Secret Garden.
Heart Border die, and Happy Mother's Day from Mother embossed on a PTI baner.
Aleene's Paper Glaze is applied to the whites of the roses, and along the edges of the leaves.
And because I can never leave these alone, vintage lace edging along the side.
The whole card would have been better with a white lattice, I think, but a challenge is a challenge is a challenge...
Card 2: Better
The industrial foil just screams teen birthday.
My grandson turns 'big 13' next month. This will be his card.
The tape was first cut with Wine Bottle Tag die, then empressed with a cuttlebug folder.
Be very careful at this point, the foil is a trickster. I cut the wine tag with a piece of cardstock to mount my foil on. Keeps it manageable.
By the Numbers 13, popped up on a die cut white shimmer circle, and that popped up on a pinked sea shimmer circle. Across the top is a star border die cut from copper shimmer paper.
The new shimmer paper is a favorite! Ordered the sampler, but I can see a need for buckets of certain colors!
As you know, there are times when the card angels are aiding. That happened to me as I embossed the "yay!" onto this card. Ah, sweet times!
All mounted onto sapphire shimmer paper (LOVE!)
Might just do a few more, went a little crazy with the foil tape!
Heather, thank you!

  1. Nancy - both of these cards are awesome! I never thought of using the coverplate - great idea! And I think you are right - the industrial look of the tape on your masculine card is perfect! I also love the shimmer numbers! Wonderful!

  2. How nice that you had some of this tape. I don't think I do but wont hurt to ask. I love this idea and wish I thought of it. Both cards are wonderful Nancy! I love the 13 year old one and its just perfect! Your first one is also gorgeous! Cant wait to get my hands on this tape.

  3. Well, I love this. Everything about it. Just perfect.

  4. Wow! I love both cards, especially your first one! Here I am, trying to do CAS cards, but this one takes me the opposite, delicious direction! Love the lace, too :)

  5. Wowzer! Love these cards Nancy.

  6. Two very different, very fabulous cards Nancy! Love seeing the shimmer paper used too - I am proud to have cut into mine this week - usually I'd hoard something like this forever.

  7. Two unique and fabulous cards, nice that your DH just happened to have some of this tape for you :) I'll just bet if I look hard enough I'll find some in my garage (my husband loved building things as a hobby)

  8. These came out beautiful Nancy. I love both of them!!
Love how you made the sweet life roses too!

  9. I love both of your cards but especially the Mothers Day card. It is GORGEOUS!!! The diagonal stars stitched on the B-day card absolutely made the card.
    You have 2 winners!
    Thanks for sharing

  10. Fabulous cards, Nancy! I love how you matched your roses to the patterned paper on the first card so perfectly! And your second card is just awesome!

  11. Both of these cards are fabulous! Yay for your DH! The first card is very elegant, I love the way it turned out!

  12. These are both incredible cards. I can't tell which is the one you don't think is as good. They are both amazing. Love your use of foil, and that shimmer paper--my goodness, why did I pass that stuff up?

  13. Oh, I just had to come back and congratulate you on your FB shout out. Well deserved!

  14. LOVE both cards, Nancy! They are so different. The first one is lovely. Love the impression plate with the roses. The second is a great birthday card. Happy birthday to your grandson early:-)

  16. Two very great cards! The Mother's Day card is so elegant with just a hint of Twist IP. Your BD card is super fun too.

  17. These are both awesome cards!! The "trellis" is perfect! Love how you put that teen card together. I'm thinking it would be great for both girl or boy.
