Have a Holly Jolly

Hello PTI friends!
If you love playing along with PTI's MIM, you're gonna love this week
with Dawn. She shows us how she created a background on a card
she did by using painted brushstrokes.
Dawn makes it look easy. But have to tell you, it took me several
tries to get something I liked. The brushed cardstock I ended up with
is one I added gold paint to at the end. IRL, I liked it. Photographing
made it look a bit too busy.

One of the things I loved about this technique was the ease making 2 cards.

The white is my favorite of the 2. I cut the word 'Christmas' off the Holly Jolly
Christmas die so it would fit within and on my Tag die.
Lots of greenery from 2 of my favorite Raspberry Suite sets: Gran's Garden and
Holiday Greens. The fabulous bow is from Corner Adorner: October, and 2 cards for Christmas
are done!

A few tips: I stamped my images using a misti so I
could go over them with shading. Then for added color intensity, I stamped again
with versa mark, and sprinkled with clear embossing powder.

Both sentiments were die cut with shimmer cardstock, for a more
holiday feel.

I will definitely use this fun technique again. I'd like to try it
with softer a softer pallet next time. Maybe with pastels.

All items used below will take you to the PTI store.
Happy Crafting, and Happy shopping!

  1. Gorgeous--love all those rich colors, Nancy! And the sentiment die cuts look awesome. This reminds me of a paint dragging technique Jennifer McGuire used. One of those things I always intended to try but haven't. It gives a great look!

Pray do tell, what acrylic paints did you use and the color names.

    1. Hi Loralee! Just saw your comment and question, thank you and I used the following from Michaels:
Apple Barrel Bright Red, Folk Art Linen, a blend I made myself to make a coral, and I'm sorry I don't remember what I used to make it. The gold is my favorite gold paint. It's called Liquid Leaf Classic Gold by Plaid, and it's oil based. Best to use when the other paints are dry. Hope it helps!

  5. Two absolutely GORGEOUS cards Nancy! I just LOVE your bold color palette! The CAS card is so pretty, but I actually prefer the 2nd card best because of all that rich and lovely color in the background and of course the lovely floral too! I know what you meant about the panels not looking like much when you first paint them, but boy do they turn into fun and BEAUTIFUL cards in the end! You definitely aced this project my friend!! :0)

  6. Two beautiful cards, Nancy. I also didn't like my panels when I first did them until I die cute them, but I even thought that about Dawn's too.
